what doesn't kill you makes you stronger | tips for motivation



motivation is a weird thing. the way that we can be so full of it one minute and yet the next be right back where we started. everyone has a different motivation for what they do, be it a motivation to complete certain tasks, to do well in school or even to loose weight. everyone has there reasons and it is this that pushed us to do our best and complete whatever task we set our mind to.

for me it was when a guy told me 'you're not that fat' that i became motivated to prove him wrong and make myself so fit that no one could ever call me fat again. i know people say don't ever change for other people but for me that was my wake up call. it was the sign that i needed to do something about the way i was starting to feel. and as far as i'm concerned if i get to throw a couple of 'screw you's in the direction of the people who hurt me and made me feel like shit, then i say why not! 

it is that motivation that keeps me driven all the time and i can't say i really feel like faultering at any point but i have definitely had times in the past when my motivation has run low and sometimes you just need something to pick yourself up a bit. so i thought i'd share the things i do to keep myself motivated and on track in the hope it helps someone else. i can't say i'm an expert but theses things definitely made all the difference for me!

1) really want to do it
there is no good saying you want to loose weight if your heart isn't in it. you need to really want to make a change and eat properly and exercise! otherwise you'll just be miserable the whole time and probably fall off the wagon. so wait until you really find your turning point and a want to make that change. find that thing that really inspires you to make a change. it might be a celebrity you admire or a friend who has lost a few pounds and looks amazing or it might be that you're just sick and tired of being the way you are. you need to find that motivation and use it to your advantage!

2) have a goal
i'm not necessarily suggesting you say right now that you want to loose 4 stone and look like beyonce, but have an idea in mind of where you want to be. for me my first target is what i weighed last time i left slimming world, and once i reach that i will set myself another goal. the important thing is to make them achievable. saying that you want to loose 3 stone is great in the long run but it seems so far away when your in your first week craving a chocolate bar! instead say ' i eventually want to loose 3 stone but for now i want to loose half a stone in 4 weeks'. that's far more realistic and sets your goal well within your sights.

3) find something pretty
everyone has a piece in their wardrobe they kept  for 'when i loose weight' so get it out the wardrobe and hang it up somewhere you can see it. imagine how you'll feel when you fit back into it! if you're feeling really confident you could even try it on and feel as it gets looser each week.

4) plan
make sure you think ahead! there's no use coming home to make dinner and finding all you have is a pizza in your fridge. you need to make sure you have ideas of what to cook and foods that help you make these healthier choices, otherwise you simply start back at square one.

5) don't give up after one bad day!
this is the most important! i can't even count how many people have a binge day and then go 'well sod it. i've ruined it now, might as well give up and eat everything.' NO! don't do it! everyone has bad days and just because you ate that one donut or even if you ate 12 donuts you can still have healthy meals for the rest of the day or go to the gym. that way you might gain one less pound or even not gain at all! i've know people to binge, get back on track and still loose weight! anything is possible if you want to succeed! when this happens to me i always remember this saying:


obviously i'm no expert! i'm just another normal person trying to loose weight but these are things that work/worked for me so hopefully they can help at least one person out there!

  1. Meeee! I want to lose 15 pounds but I'm not sure in which time scale... Good luck and a guy at work told me I only had a bit of a stomach and I flipped! Haha x
