Organising My Life | Weekly Planners

The other day I had an entire afternoon free and I was feeling a little less perky than usual. So I did what any normal person would do and decided to do some arts and crafts. I had these old photo frames in my cupboard and rather than throw them away I thought I would transform them into weekly dry-wipe planners. So I cracked out my bag of arty goodies and set to work!

My first project was a weekly day to day planner. I've been wanting to buy a whiteboard to use to create a visual for myself but I kept putting it off because they were so darn expensive. I made this one with some card, old wrapping paper and some cute little foam hearts I collected at some point. It was quick and easy. (The hardest part being drawing out the lines!) Once I'd stuck it all together I just popped it in the frame and got started writing out my schedule for the whole of next week. I have to admit having a massive A3 adaptable timetable for myself has made my life a million time easier! Plus it looks so cute!

My second creation of the day was a weekly meal and exercise planner to help me keep on track when I get back to university, as well as reducing my food waste. I wish I could take the credit for this beautiful template but truthfully it was something I discovered here on Cassie's blog. (Pop on over it is beautiful!) I was going to make my own but I couldn't imagine making anything anywhere near as nice! I decided rather than printing it out every week I could save on time and money by popping it in a frame just like my weekly schedule planner.

I'm getting so much use out of both the planners already! I love seeing a visual representation of my week, it makes me feel so much more prepared and organised!

Do you like doing crafty projects? How do you stay organised?

Forever Living Clean 9 Detox | The End

It's been a few days since the end of my detox experience and I've had time to reflect on it and honestly I think it has helped me far more mentally than it did physically. On the morning after the final day I took my measurements and weighed myself one final time and although not dramatic I am very please with the results:

Arm: -1.5 inches
Waist: -2.5 inches
Hip: -1.5 inches
Thigh: -2 inches
Chest: -2 inches

Weight: -1 lb/0.6kg
Body Fat %: -3%

My change weight doesn't bother me at all, it's nice to see a change, but I am not simply aiming for 'weight loss' I want fat loss and muscle gain! It was amazing to see that my body fat % had changed so much and I am finally in the excellent category which is what I have been working towards for the past month! My body certainly has changed but not as dramatically as many other women who I have seen do the programme which is slightly disappointing but I do only have myself to blame for not fully following the programme.

The most significant changes for me were mentally during this process. I have never had a problem having to control my cravings and calorie intake. I eat very healthy 80% of the time and then treat myself the other 20%, but during this detox I just couldn't manage to do it. The idea of formally depriving myself meant that I just wanted to eat all of those things I couldn't, really decreasing my morale. I also found that my relationship with food changed. Having suffered with issues with eating in the past, at times I have found it difficult to see the 'point' of food, what did it really offer me other than the fact it tasted nice? But now I really understand the need to fuel my body with good things. Food is there to be enjoyed yes, but fundamentally it is what makes our body able to do the amazing things we do and by depriving myself I wasn't able to do these to my full capacity and that made me miserable. I am a firm believer that you should only do something if it makes you happy. I quite honestly I was not. That is not to say that you should give up on everything difficult, but you should maintain a balance within yourself and this experience wasn't for me. I have seen proof of it working for so many people and I will be continuing to use all of the products separately until they run out, I have no doubt that they do work but overall the Clean 9 just wasn't for me and that's okay.

Rosie Gets Healthy | Metcalfe's Skinny

| Metcalfe's Skinny Rice cakes in Milk Chocolate and Topcorn in Sea Salt |
Anyone who know me personally or follows me on Twitter or Instagram will know that I have been on a mission to get healthy for the past few months. I've obviously recently tried a detox and am now looking at returning to my healthy eating habits and workouts. As part of the process I've been discovering some healthier versions of naughty treats that I enjoyed, as well as amazing exercise classes and workout routines to do myself. So I thought I would do a little bit of series about the little bits I've picked up, workout classes I've really enjoyed and other health related bits and bobs. Join my on my mission to get healthy and happy!

These two snacks are something that I just HAVE to have in my cupboard. As a student I am often up super late (especially in exam season) finishing assignments or studying for tests. And like many others I get super hungry and want something to treat myself with out consuming hundreds of calories in one sitting. The multi-pack bags of popcorn are perfect because I can easily grab them on the way to library and know that I have a handy snack size bag so I can't overeat for the sake of it! At only 52 calories per pack they are absolutely amazing and you can grab them in so many flavours! I know I'll definitely be back off to Poundland to scout out some more when I get back to Uni!

This rice cakes are just something else! When I used to think of rice cakes I imagined them plain, tasteless and boring but now I've found the amazing amazing ways to spice up my plain ones as well as discovering these absolute gems! Yes I realised milk chocolate isn't healthy and I am trying to cut out diary as much as possible, but for these I made an exception. When I have a craving for chocolate one of these is an amazing alternative. The chocolate is just enough that I don't feel cheated and the rice cake helps fill me up a little more than a chocolate bar would. At only 82 calories they make me feel a little bit better about having a bit of an indulgence.

I managed to pick both of these up in Poundland and if you have one near to you I would definitely recommend popping and seeing what you can find. I find most of my snacks in there now days!

What are your favourite healthier alternatives?

Rosie

As the detox neared it's end all days started to blend into one really. Days 7 & 8 were fairly similar in that although I wasn't necessarily 100% to plan I was pretty darn close and really made an effort to make sure I was having all of my supplements, aloe and shakes. The shakes became easier to chug down and although they left me full I wasn't satisfied like I am with food. I managed to stay within my allowances but I simply wasn't happy.

On day 9 I headed off to my morning cardio class as usual and after about 30 mins I was so faint I had to go and buy some food from the vending machine to even be able to stand properly. Obviously it wasn't the most calorie conscious decision and I decided then and there that although I had less that one day to go I just couldn't do it any more. I wasn't happy and I decided to stop after 8 days. I don't regret my decision at all and I still weighed and measured myself (the results for that will be in my final post) I just didn't want to continue doing something that was making me so miserable.

Although I have now finished I will have one more post up about the detox before the end of the week to share my results and final thoughts on the experience. So if you are considering this or any sort of detox I'd say give it a look to decide if it's really for you and don't judge my overall thoughts on this one post!

Sampling Samples #7

Something a little different before I put up my penultimate Detox post tomorrow. I hadn't done one of these in a while and whilst I was home it seemed like the perfect opportunity to crack out the old samples box and have a bit of a nosy. I've accumulated so many now that picking ones to try has become a bit of a challenge so I decided to 'lucky dip' it and use the first six I picked out. So here we go, my lucky dip edition of 'Sampling Samples'!

Rodial 5 Minute Facial
This product was not at all what I expected! It was a sort of grainy, clay mask which dried super quickly onto the skin. You really didn't need much to cover the face and as it is only a 5 minute product it's great for people in a rush who still want a bit of a pamper.

Rimmel Matte BB Cream
I am a fan of BB creams, especially the original Asian ones, but this product just didn't cut the mustard for me. It looked heavy and didn't blend very well into the skin, however it did feel a lot lighter than it looked and a little goes a long way. It does also live up to its name and provides a matte finish, although I still won't be buying this.

L'Oreal Youth Code Luminize
I wasn't really sure what to think of this.  Again you really didn't need much to cover the face and the smooth finish it gave was lovely but did it really 'luminize' my skin? Not really...the more even finish it left made it nicer to apply my make-up but I'm not sure I would buy it solely for that.

Viva La Juicy Noir
This perfume is just B-E-A-UTIFUL! It has a lovely sweet, floral scent but with an air of sophistication. It is meant as an evening scent but I wore this in the day and no less than THREE strangers come up to me and ask what perfume I was wearing. This is definitely on the wishlist.

Elizabeth Arden 'Visible Difference Skin Balancing' Skincare Range
The scent of this range reminded me of my grandma but ina  nice way. Very clean, fresh and almost soap like. The exfoliating cleanser was lovely to use and left my skin feeling super clean with a very gentle exfoliation. The skin balancing lotion was a bit meh. Nothing too special but my skin did feel nicely moisturised and it has spf 15 which is a bonus. The final item in the set is the optimising skin serum and I'll admit this one has a bit of a strange scent compared to the other two... I don't really know where that came from. However, the product itself left the skin feeling smooth and prepared for my make-up. It even sorted out the skin on my next which is unheard of!

Roger & Gallet 'Fleur de Figuier' Range
The smell of this! Just OH MY GOD! The shower gel was lovely to use. A small sachet was enough for my whole body and left it feeling smooth with a hint of the scent. To layer up the scent next I used the body lotion which was super moisturising and sorted out my dehydrated legs a treat! It was a little sticky until it dried but that was definitely something I could live with. The perfume was not what I expected AT ALL. It is far more subtle than the shower gel and lotion but yet compliments them beautifully. It is lightly more floral without being sickly sweet. Although I love these three as a combination I don't think I would be as taken with the perfume alone. The other two though I am definitely lusting over! And another plus... the range is all suitable for sensitive skin and sulfate and paraben free!

Forever Living Clean 9 Detox | Days 4, 5 & 6

I was hoping to get all these posts up on the days but found I didn't really have enough to say for each one so it seemed best to merge them all! All the days from now on are the same and look a bit like this...

Morning
2 Forever Garcinia Plus (20 mins before aloe)
120ml (4oz) Aloe Vera Gel + minimum 240ml (8oz) water
Meal replacement shake - 1 scoop of Forever Lite Ultra with 300ml (10oz) skimmed or soya milk
20 minutes of exercise – walk, run, cycle or swim
Snack
2 Forever Bee Pollen + 240ml (8oz) water
Lunch
2 Forever Garcinia Plus (20 mins before aloe)
Meal replacement shake - 1 scoop of Forever Lite Ultra with 300ml (10oz) skimmed or soya milk
2 Forever Bee Pollen tablets
Dinner
2 Forever Garcinia Plus (20 mins before aloe)
120ml (4oz) Aloe Vera Gel + minimum 240ml (8oz) water
600-Calorie Meal
2 Forever Bee Pollen
Evening
Minimum 240ml (8oz) water

So with that in mind here is my breakdown of the three days:

Day 4
Day 4 was easier than I thought it would be. The shakes were still unbearable but I managed to split my 600 calories up effectively to give myself an evening meal and a few small snacks during the day. I kept wanting to pick at everything around me but I just made sure to count absolutely everything. I had more energy than I have in god knows how long and that in itself is amazing!

Day 5
Day 5 was a bit of a disaster day for me... I went off the rails big style. We had a family gathering and despite my best efforts it resulted in me going WAY over my 600 calorie allowance. Initially I felt really annoyed at myself but I really enjoyed the day and I know had I have not done it I would have just been craving for the whole of the next 4 days. The shakes still tasted awful (but are super filling!) and the aloe is getting easier and easier to chug down. (I reckon I'll probably keep taking it after the detox until I run out!)

Day 6
I decided after the disaster of day 5 to take my measurements and go and weigh myself today in an attempt to either shock myself into working harder or motivate me to keep going. So my day started with a trip down to the gym to use their super scales and I honestly don't think I could have been more shocked! I have lost 3lbs since starting, which for me is almost unheard of, as well as 12.5 inches from various parts of my body! But for me the most exciting part was seeing that my body fat % had decreased by 1.2%! I've been working super hard on building lean muscle and shredding away the fat so for me the actual weight lose isn't as important as seeing a figure like that! It totally spurred me on to push through to the end. Following that I had the most amazing lunch with some old friends today and they deliberately cooked something nice and healthy for me which was amazing and super tasty! (Picture above) Now its time for my evening shake and then onto work for the evening. A successful day all round I'd say!

Not long until the end now and I'm feeling more and more confident about finishing it, especially after this morning's boost! So here's to the next 3!

Forever Living Clean 9 Detox | Day 3

Day 3 is almost over and I have to say it has been WAY easier than the first two. I think the fact that I knew I was going to have food was what spurred me on.

Today's plan looked a little like this...

Morning
2 Forever Garcinia Plus (20 mins before aloe)
120ml (4oz) Aloe Vera Gel + minimum 240ml (8oz) water
Meal replacement shake - 1 scoop of Forever Lite Ultra with 300ml (10oz) skimmed or soya milk
20 minutes of exercise – walk, run, cycle or swim
Snack
2 Forever Bee Pollen + 240ml (8oz) water
Lunch
2 Forever Garcinia Plus (20 mins before aloe)
Meal replacement shake - 1 scoop of Forever Lite Ultra with 300ml (10oz) skimmed or soya milk
2 Forever Bee Pollen tablets
Dinner
2 Forever Garcinia Plus (20 mins before aloe)
120ml (4oz) Aloe Vera Gel + minimum 240ml (8oz) water
600-Calorie Meal
2 Forever Bee Pollen
Evening
Minimum 240ml (8oz) water

Although today doesn't look much different from yesterday the extra intake has made all the difference to my morale. Because I knew food was coming in the near future I found it so much easier to push through any hunger and weirdly I had so much more energy today. I didn't know what to do with myself! Zumba was a breeze and I'm itching to get to yoga and move about a bit, to try and expel some of it somewhere! I don't know if it was the increased calorie intake or something else? But whatever it was I am a fan! I'm actually starting to get weirdly attached to the aloe. (That's not to say I like it!) But it did feel strange having less of it today. Having to have two shakes each day now instead of the one has been awful, simply because I hate them so much. I'm forcing them down with plenty of water and hoping for the best.

I was worried about the 600 calorie meal, simply because I wasn't sure what to eat. In the end I made the concoction above: Mixed salad with some peppers and red onion, topped with goats cheese, chicken and roasted butternut squash, finished off with a poached egg and a little low fat dressing. DELISH! And it came in at just over 350 calories! That meant I could test myself to a few healthy snacks during the day too which was amazing!

Now for the good news... as I said in yesterday's post I have decided not to weigh myself until the morning after the last day (keep it a surprise and all that) but I did measure myself today to check my progress and... *drumroll* I have lost 2 inches off every part of my body I measured! Now I can't be sure if that figure will get higher or lower as time goes on but it's certainly given me a bit more motivation to push on!

Here's to day 4!

Forever living Clean 9 Detox | Day 2

So day 2 is almost over and the motivation of yesterday has diminished drastically. The past two days have been a lot tougher than I expected and yet easier at the same time (yes I realise how little sense that makes). What I have found most difficult is making sensible decisions alongside the detox which may be fundamentally why I have struggled thus far.

Before I get into how today has gone I must first make a confession.... yesterday I ate *hides behind hands*.  I didn't simply decide I was really hungry and that I couldn't be bothered any more. I did it after serious consideration. I live a very active lifestyle, usually doing about 2 hours of exercise a day plus long shifts behind the bar at work, and as the end of the day approached I got really shaky (although not hungry, weirdly) and without it I don't think I would have made it through my shift. Although I am disappointed that I didn't make it through the first day properly I deliberately made choices that were all natural so I was still getting rid of all of the nasties in my body and only ate enough to steady myself a bit. It is the best out of a bad situation really and I'm just hoping this blip doesn't ruin my results. BUT today is another day and I've put it all behind me!

So today looked a little bit like this....

Morning
2 Forever Garcinia Plus (20 mins before aloe)
120ml (4oz) Aloe Vera Gel + minimum 240ml (8oz) water
20 minutes of exercise – walk, run, cycle or swim
Snack
2 Forever Bee Pollen + 240ml (8oz) water
Lunch
2 Forever Garcinia Plus (20 mins before aloe)
120ml (4oz) Aloe Vera Gel + minimum 240ml (8oz) water
Meal replacement shake - 1 scoop of Forever Lite Ultra with 300ml (10oz) skimmed or soya milk
2 Forever Bee Pollen tablets
Dinner
2 Forever Garcinia Plus (20 mins before aloe)
120ml (4oz) Aloe Vera Gel + minimum 240ml (8oz) water
2 Forever Bee Pollen
Evening
120ml (4oz) Aloe Vera Gel + minimum 240ml (8oz) water

The aloe is slightly more bearable today but the shake isn't any better and I'm really, really struggling to finish it. I can't see any changes in my body just by looking at it but tomorrow I am going to redo all of my measurements. I've decided to wait until the morning after day 9 (the last day) to re-weigh myself, mainly because I think it's unhealthy to weigh yourself too many times each week but I'm really hoping to see some progress soon to spur me on because right now 7 more days seems an awfully difficult prospect! I can't wait until tomorrow when I can eat again without feeling awful about it!

Forever Living Clean 9 Detox | Day 1

| Forever Living Clean 9 Detox- £111.55 |
For anyone who follows me on Twitter and Instagram it should be obvious by now that I am a woman on a mission. A mission to shred all that unnecessary fat gained from too many drunken pizzas and bottles of wine on nights out. I've been going going to gym and healthy eating for almost two months now with great results but it's almost ball and awards season and I'm still feeling a bit self conscious. I'd heard from a few people that they had had great success on the Clean Nine detox. It made them feel less bloated, more energised, prepared them for future weight loss and as a brilliant side effect, lost a significant amount of weight and inches!

Now I know what you're thinking.... detox? A quick fix and you'll put it back on again, I was the same. But after speaking to a variety of different people who had completed the detox I began to see a common theme... 'I kept on loosing weight after, and now I'm still keeping it off!' It appeared that most people had used it as a method to kick start their weight loss goals into action, and although mine was under way this could only help motivate me more! I was also really struggling with so stubborn fat on my hips that would not seem to budge no matter how well I eat or how much exercise I do. So here's hoping this might be the answer! But even more than that I'm looking forward to flushing all of the toxins from my body that I've been collecting up since I started university last year!

So this morning I decided to pop to my gym and hop on their super scales to help me see my total weight and fat loss at the end of the detox, in addition to measuring various parts of my body to see if I loose any inches too! Obviously I won't be posting my weight etc all over the internet but I'll post my total differences at the end to give you an idea of the changes my body underwent.

Today is my first day of the detox which involves the following....

Morning
2 Forever Garcinia Plus (20 mins before aloe)
120ml (4oz) Aloe Vera Gel + minimum 240ml (8oz) water
20 minutes of exercise – walk, run, cycle or swim
Snack
2 Forever Bee Pollen + 240ml (8oz) water
Lunch
2 Forever Garcinia Plus (20 mins before aloe)
120ml (4oz) Aloe Vera Gel + minimum 240ml (8oz) water
Meal replacement shake - 1 scoop of Forever Lite Ultra with 300ml (10oz) skimmed or soya milk
2 Forever Bee Pollen tablets
Dinner
2 Forever Garcinia Plus (20 mins before aloe)
120ml (4oz) Aloe Vera Gel + minimum 240ml (8oz) water
2 Forever Bee Pollen
Evening
120ml (4oz) Aloe Vera Gel + minimum 240ml (8oz) water

Yeah... that's not a lot of food for your first day... well none actually. Instead you are cleansing the body of all the toxins you might be hoarding and gain your calories from the shake and aloe gel. The aloe wasn't the best tasting thing in the word (I believe rank is the word I used) but it is do-able and I've managed to have all of my doses (so far). I'll admit I was a little disappointed by the shake. I was really looking forward to it and it wasn't as nice as I had hoped but it did fill me up a bit which is definitely a plus. I haven't really felt hungry or tired but I do have a six hour shift this evening so it could all change... I was hoping to go to bed early to avoid any  evening cravings and help set me up for tomorrow (which is more of the same) but looks like that isn't going to happen.... I cannot wait for day 3! According to others who have done it it's all upwards from there!
